Chapter 50

From birth to death. Three in ten are followers of life; three in ten are followers of death; three in ten live but move toward death. Why is this? Because they live life too intensely. I have heard that one who is good at preserving life does not meet rhinoceroses or tigers when traveling on land, and is not touched by weapons when entering battle. The rhinoceros finds no place to thrust its horn; the tiger finds no place to sink its claws; weapons find no place to lodge their blades. Why is this? Because he has no place of death.
