道冲而用之或不盈,渊兮似万物之宗。挫其锐,解其纷,和其光,同其尘。湛兮似或存,吾不知谁之子,象帝之先。
The Tao is like an empty vessel; used but never filled. Fathomless, it seems to be the ancestor of all things. It blunts sharpness, untangles knots, softens glare, and merges with dust. Deep and still, it seems to barely exist. I do not know whose child it is; it appears to precede the Lord.
