第八十一章

信言不美，美言不信；善者不辩，辩者不善；知者不博，博者不知。圣人不积，既以为人，己愈有；既以与人，己愈多。天之道，利而不害。圣人之道，为而不争。

Truthful words are not beautiful; beautiful words are not truthful. The good do not argue; those who argue are not good. The wise are not learned; the learned are not wise. The sage does not hoard. The more he helps others, the more he has; the more he gives to others, the more he gains. The way of heaven is to benefit and not to harm. The way of the sage is to act and not to compete.

真实的话不华美，华美的话不真实；善良的人不善辩，善辩的人不善良；真正有智慧的人不卖弄学问，卖弄学问的人没有真智慧。圣人不积累私财，尽力帮助别人，自己反而更富有；尽力给予别人，自己反而更充足。天的法则是利益万物而不伤害。圣人的法则是有所作为而不与人争夺。
